Books and the web are excellent initial resources for entrepreneurs on a "guerrilla mode" budget.  Management theories change in appearance like fads, but if worthy, always center around basic proven management principles.  Below are several inexpensive resources that are quite helpful.

"Quick Read" Books ...

  • The E-Myth Revisited by Michael E. Gerber.  Gerber shows how to apply the lessons of franchising to any business, whether or not it is a franchise.  This bestseller dispels myths about starting your own business.
  • Raving Fans by Ken Blanchard & Sheldon Bowles.  Learn how to define a mission, understand what the customer really wants, institute effective systems, and make Raving Fan service more than just a program of the month.
  • The One Minute Manager by Ken Blanchard & Spencer Johnson.  A simple book with three fundamental employee management techniques.
  • Manage Your Time by Tim Hindle.  Practical techniques that show you how to identify time-wasting traps, plan your time effectively, and find working patterns that suit you (and your staff).
  • The Wall Street Journal Portfolio of Business Cartoons edited by Charles Preston.  Here are some great business cartoons that hit too close to home.
